Things I do daily...*slightly random*

April writing...

So...here it is...

Things I do Daily...some may appear random...but that's ME!

Shower - everyday.
(I'd like to have a shower head like this...or bigger. So it feels like rain)

Sing - in my car, at home, at work, in the shower.
(It might be fun to have a microphone like that.)

Clap - I am a big clapper...I clap when I laugh, when I am dancing or just randomly.
(those aren't my hands...FYI.)

Put on Deodorant - When I wake up, after I shower and before bed. It makes me feel fresh.
(Yeah, I use Dove too...makes my pits silky smooth. Word.)

Crack my neck - It's become more a habit than for an release...I also find myself twirling my right hand to crack my wrist too.
(although I try and not break my neck while doing so.)

Make mouth noises - but not like the smacking kind...more like clicking noises. Usually when I am thinking or just bored.
(and I look like a cartoon at the same time...)

Talk to myself - I am finding that older I get the more I do this. I'm not nuts though...promise.
(I don't need a mirror to talk to myself...she does. Just for viewing purposes.)

Put on chapstick - alot. It's a staple...I have to.
(My fav.)

Tap my fingers - I do this alot at work. But if I am near a hard object...I will usually do it.
(This isn't my hand either.)

Count stairs - I find that if I come to stairs during the course of my day, I tend to count them as I climb. Unless I am talking at the same time.
(This IS my house. sike.)

Un-bend paper clips - It's my bad work habit. I have gone through thousands. Gesh.
(What's that spell??!! ...nothing actually stop trying to figure it out.)

Say "I Love You" - Always to Cory...and more than enough times too.
(again...not my hand.)

Log on our Home Banking account - almost daily. It's a habit too. I just check in...say hi to our money or what's left of it...then log off. :)
(I am not always that happy when looking at our account...if that's you...that's great.)

SO?! What do you do on a daily basis??

What in the wooorrrld? haha

Monday Moan

Cory writing...

My Monday Moan is having both COURT and TRAINING on my DAYS OFF. That is not a way to spend my time away from work!!!

How about you? What are you moaning about this Monday?

This is really sweet...

An open letter to my body...

April writing...

Dear Body Fat, (especially what Fat finds itself hovering around my midsection, arms and neck...)

I just wanted to touch base with you in a more formal, public way to ensure that this time you may get my drift.

I want to wear cute clothes. I know that sounds selfish and childish, but it's the truth...and for too long you have hindered me from doing just that. I have not been able to develop a relationship with cute clothes because of your swelling connection to my body.

Here you are happily clinging to my body as if there was no invitation to go elsewhere...but there is. I don't care where you go, just leave me alone...seriously. I mean, you could even hop a little bit of yourself onto my Husby seeing as how he has been trying to put on more weight for a while.(Not too much though...he may get upset.)

I long for the day when I don't have to wear slightly larger shirts to ensure that your ever present protruding doesn't interfere with any cuteness that I could muster up.

And yes, I see you there...with your hand up my old fat friend...I know what you are going to say, "Why are you blaming me...it's all about what you eat and how you exercise. Do the right thing and I will be gone." While I need you to know that I understand that, I still feel that you hold on with the tenacity of a protester; bound and determined to sit and scream out your point until it is realized by all.

But your point...the one that screams that I will be "fat" forever...well I plan on drowning it out! I WILL do it...I too can have tenacity...in fact for the better part of 2008 I drowned out 34 pounds of YOU...and I felt like I was on top of the world. Whatever it was that made me lay down my sword and stop fighting...well that's gone.

I HAVE picked up my sword again...and I plan on fighting the remaining 50+ pounds of YOU that is hanging around. Then you will be GONE forever...and that relationship that I have been missing out on, the one I have been putting off...that relationship with cute clothes...I will flaunt it in front of any sign of you that creeps up until you run away screaming.

Body fat...it's ON!
You are no longer welcome.
Please see your way out.

ok...this, is adorable.

April writing...

I am having an outstanding week. So to share in some of my cheer I want to show you guys something that I got from a fellow bloggy friend.

I TOTALLY want to do this...but where???

My only current idea...is I was thinking about getting the shelves and painting them black. Then taking picture is various kitchen items (i.e. forks, knives, teacup, mixer, etc) and putting them in vivid black and white. Then putting them in the frames and doing two rows of this shelf with my pictures on my main wall in the kitchen...?? What do you think (for those of you who have seen my kitchen.) Would that work? (I am kinda going for a homey-cafe type feel.)

For those that want to do one yourselves...you can find the shelves here. And you can find the clip frames here. (All at IKEA of course!)

If you add it to your house...show some pictures!! I will be sure share when I add it to my house...somehow :)

p.s. - If you get a moment...say a little prayer for little Xavier. One of the members of our church, Lisa, her son Xavier had a stroke. (He is 5 I believe) He is not doing well and he needs our prayers! Also, send some prayers up for Linn, DW and their family. (Another bloggy friend) Their house burnt down last Wednesday and they are still picking up the pieces with their very large family. (8 kids) You can read her story here.

Simple Pleasure Thursday

Cory Writing....

I actually have two simple pleasures for this week.

The first simple pleasure is to see my extremely creative wife put her sewing machine to great use. She made these super cute baby shoes and she did a great job on them.

My second simple pleasure is to see my wife get an offer that very well my change her life. She was contacted by a FOX 45 news personality that wants to do a special segment on her Baby Signs business. Hopefully this will set her in the right direction to get this business off of the ground. My wife works so hard for other people and she really deserves to have something great happen to her.

Those are this weeks simple pleasures. Share yours with us.

This little baby is awesome. When the alarm sounds...the propeller flies off and shoots around the room. You can't snooze the clock without getting up, finding the propeller and putting it back on the stand.

Nice.

My first try...

April writing...

...at Cloth Baby Shoes...

It took me an hour and half for the FIRST shoe alone...then the second shoe took 20 minutes haha! I plan to go down and make two more pairs after I get myself some nourishment.

What do you think? (And yes, for those of you wondering...these shoes are NOT for children walking...they are more like baby slippers!! But I literally made these with EXTRA fabric I had in my house!! AHH!!)

p.s. - I will post MORE pictures of my other pairs when they are complete!! :) Here they are....pair three coming soon!!!

I am hopeful...

April writing...

I am.

With a new Leader comes change, that's for sure. How those changes will impact Me, My Family, Our Country...only time will tell. But I am hopeful. It's scary and unsettling no matter what, no matter who...placing our HOME, our COUNTRY in the hands of ONE MAN. One Human.

So we pray, we stay hopeful and we continue on...yes, today made history...but simply put. It's just another day.

Welcome Mr. President and the First Lady.

And goodbye Mr. Bush and Laura. Thanks for your years...your changes, good or bad. In your own way, you shaped our Country.

2009...the year of the Scarf

April writing...

Please tell me how CUTE this is???? I found it over at Infarrantly Creative.

I am totally going to make one!!! I have never crocheted a day in my life...so if you know how...or even have some remote knowledge...then I will need your help with this tutorial...and by helping me...I will make you one too!!

And here's the tutorial for making the flower...which is equally as cute!

Some of the blogs that I follow are announcing that 2009 is the year of the scarf...which I find appealing seeing as how I have been wearing my scarves for the past two months long after I have taken my coat off indoors. They are just so warm and toasty and fun...

So now...I will make my chunky scarf and some for friends...If I properly learn how! :)

Monday Moan

Cory Writing....

My Monday Moan this week has to do with the presidential inauguration.

I don't understand why President-Elect Obama has to have all these stupid things happening. I don't remember any of the last several presidents having all this stuff leading up to the Inaugural. All you did is get elected to president like 43 other guys before you. I understand that this is the first time we have had a black president, which is kind of cool, but I thought you were bringing change to the white house. All I am seeing so far is you sticking your nose in stuff that doesn't concern you (IE. college football having a playoff) and spending an ungodly amount of money just for events for you to "thank the people." How about you just put all that money into the economy, take your oath, and get to work. Enough is enough. You are inconveniencing everyone.

...a NEW leaf...

April writing...

My dear Husby has turned over a new leaf...he has been finding recipes and fixing them at home. He seems to really enjoy doing it, and I love hanging out in the kitchen with him and helping out!!! Wanna see what we are having tonight??

Oh yummm YESS! Chicken Stuffed Shells. This is a Cory found recipe. So after work we will venture through the cabinets to see what we need then head to store for the rest!! I am excited. This should be really yummy. Here's the recipe for any of you who may want to try it out...We will post our own pictures from our dinner!!

Ingredients:

1 box jumbo uncooked pasta shells

6 garlic cloves (minced)

2 chicken breasts (cooked and shredded)

1 (30 oz) container ricotta cheese

1/3 cup Italian breadcrumbs

1 ½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

1 ½ teaspoons dried parsley

6 basil leaves (torn)

1/3 cup half and half

28 oz pasta sauce

¼ cup parmesan cheese

1 cup mozzarella cheese

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1: Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees. Cook pasta shells according to package directions. Rinse with cold water, separate and set aside.

Step 2: Combine garlic, chicken, ricotta cheese, bread crumbs, half and half, salt, pepper, parsley, and basil and parmesan cheese in a food processor. Process until combined. If you don’t have a food processor, mix well with a spoon.

Step 3: Pour half of the pasta sauce into the bottom of a large baking dish. Stuff shells 1 by 1 with the chicken/cheese mixture and place in rows into the baking dish on top of the sauce. Top the shells with shredded mozzarella and pour the over half of the sauce over the top of shells. Bake in the oven at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.(Makes 4 servings)

ENJOY!

Garden planning...part duex

April writing...

I know that my constant flipping through this Flower/Plant catalog isn't going to make Spring come any faster, but oh the warms thoughts it fills me with!

I think that I have finally narrowed it down to about 20 picks...I will share some of my absolute FAVS with you....

The image is a little small, but you can click on it to make it bigger!
I mean...aren't they just gorgeous...?!! Right now everything in my yard is dead and yellow and blecchhh...winter bites. But soon...*hopefully* my gardens will be abounding with color and for a CHEAP price too!!!
Chances are I won't get all of these, but instead I will go with a package deal...better savings...but eventually I will build it up the way I want!!! These are just SO much cheaper than buying at Lowe's or Home Depot...their plants give you instant gratification sure...but there is just something about planting something and watching it grow from the ground up!!!
I am SO excited...I shall start saving my lunch money NOW :) haha!

Simple Pleasure Thursday

Cory Writing....

My simple pleasure this week happened last night at Verb (youth service). Jason had a message planned, but before he could get up to speak we had praise and worship. During praise and worship God started to do an amazing work. It was really powerful, it was like you could feel the holy spirit open the doors to the room and walk in. It was truly an awesome service and we never did get to Jason's message, but I believe that some youth had awesome break through. Thank you God

Understanding Infertility...

April writing...

I am doing some reading on the Shady Grove Infertility website (the office that I am probably switching over to soon.) They have a very informative website...so I figured I would share some of the information that I am reading with you, along with more of our story.

"Eighty five percent of all couples trying to conceive will become pregnant within one year. Approximately 7 million or 1 in 6 couples will have difficulty conceiving and may need medical help to identify and treat the possible causes of infertility. The good news is that there are treatments now to help almost everyone.

Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system that inhibits a couple's ability to have a baby. Infertility affects men and women equally without discrimination and for this reason both partners should actively participate in the diagnosis and treatment process. Infertility is not uncommon and you are not alone.

40% of all infertility cases may be attributed to the woman, 40% to the man, in 10% of cases both partners contribute to the problem, and 10% of the time the cause can not be identified and it is unexplained."

April's thoughts - I have never heard of Infertility referred to as a "disease" thats interesting to me...and also helpful. For some I am sure that comes with a sigh of relief, I mean after all you could think...no one can really defer a DISEASE from entering thier body...so that eases the thoughts of "Why couldn't I have stopped this?" or "I could have done this differently." The answer is no...for the majority of women/men with infertility issues, they never saw it coming nor could they have done anything to stop it.

For us, so far at least. We have fallen into the "Unexplained" section...that's 10% of the people that struggle with Infertility. And let me just say, it's no easier NOT knowing than knowing what is wrong and why it's not happening for us.

"Defining Infertility
The standard definition of infertility is the inability to achieve a pregnancy after one year of unprotected intercourse in couples where the woman is under age 35. Because a woman's fertility declines naturally as she gets older, couples should consider seeking medical help after six months of trying when the female partner is over age 35.

Why is age so important?
A woman’s fertility peaks in her mid-20’s, begins to decline around 27 and drops off more steeply after age 35. A woman’s fertility is measured by her ability to achieve a pregnancy on a given month. For women, the ability to conceive is tied to the quality of her eggs. As women age, hormonal changes begin to take place. There is a lot going on but of particular interest are the two main hormones controlling the development and release of the egg each month. These are FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) LH (lutenizing hormone).

A rising FSH level is linked to a decreasing egg quality. Decreased egg quality means it becomes more difficult for the sperm to fertilize the egg naturally. There may even be chromosomal abnormalities occurring within the egg itself, which is why amniocentesis is recommended for pregnant women over 35.

To illustrate this point, the natural pregnancy rate for women >30 is 20-30% per month but by age 40 the likelihood of conception occurring drops to > 5% per month."

April's thoughts - Wow...so it's good to know that at least I am still in a decent age range...I mean, when I was younger I thought I would be DONE having kids by now...but I guess God always has bigger and better plans.

As far as our story...well, we have officially been 'trying' or 'practicing' for 4 years. To be honest, the time has flown by...however that doesn't make it any less frustrating. We are very patient people and we have seen God's hand through it all. There have been so many times that we have been thankful to have not had children yet when things have come our way. We have seen this opportunity to get financially ready, to prepare our home more and to learn more and more about ourselves as a couple and how we will parent our own children. We still firmly believe that our day is coming soon and what a JOY it will be when it does!!

We plan on continuing in our Infertility battle and trying for our little one...hopefully this new office will offer some new energy and a renewed sense of goal!

Here's to a baby in 2009...

I saw my first Tranny today.

April writing...

Yep. Like my first, in person transvestite...at least I am pretty sure that is what HE was...and according to Dictionary.com...I was right.

"–noun: a person, esp. a male, who assumes the dress and manner usually associated with the opposite sex."

Yep. That was HIM. I was in the bank...and he turned the corner and I saw a MAN face, jawline and Adam's apple...however he had one of those Monroe face piercings...like this
and he was wearing a LADIES sweater...like cream colored...empire waist...and a black pea coat. (No boobies. Yeah I totally checked.) Then he had a pair of fitted jeans and black "do-me" boots (as Cory would call them). OH and he had the most gorgeous COACH purse too...that actually made me jealous. Shesh.
Then I started watching HIM talking to the girl he was with...and boy...it was all very effeminate! And then I see his gold bangles bracelets and the dangly earrings...Dude looked like a lady. Seriously.
It was interesting.
HE was a pretty LADY though...except for his crazy man jaw and Adam's apple...you can't hide that bad boy.

This is TOO funny...

I totally DIED laughing when I watched this last Saturday!!

...just wasting time...

April writing...

Oh yummy these are my favorite muffins too...

You Are a Blueberry Muffin

You are a nurturing, domestic, homey person.
Of all the types, you are the most likely to make your own muffins at home.
You don't like to rock the boat, and you're most content when you're making everyone else happy.
You are very loyal. You'll defend your family and friends, even if you secretly disapprove of what they're doing.
You tend to be a bit shy and withdrawn. You don't make friends quickly or easily.
But once you do make a good friend, the chances are high that you'll be friends for life.

Sounds about right...

Your Friendship Style is Empathetic

You deeply care about each person you're friends with. For you, friendship is all about the personal connection.
You tend to know everything about your friends' lives... and they know everything about yours. Your friends are your confidants.
You are always there for your friends. You celebrate their successes and support them in their times of need.
You are as loyal as they come. And you expect the same loyalty and understanding from your friends in return.
You and another Empathetic Friend: Have a amazing friendship, when it works. You care for each other deeply, but you often end up with hurt feelings and drama.
You and a Gregarious Friend: May have a bit of a one sided friendship. You adore your Social Friend, but you sometimes feel a bit neglected.
You and an Independent Friend: Struggle a bit. You are very interested in your Independent Friend's life, but your friend often needs more space.
You and a Philosophical Friend: Respect one another. You love to learn about your Philosophical Friend's brilliant ideas.

And I would TOTALLY wear one of these too!

You Are a Hat With Flaps

You are fun loving, cheerful, and even pretty cute most of the time.
You use fashion to play. You never take style all that seriously.
You're the type most likely to wear a funny t-shirt or goofy hat.
But when it comes time to clean up, you clean up nicely.

And last but not least...

You Are 66% Likely to Survive Another Great Depression

Even though you may not be expecting the worst, you're the type of person who prepares for the worst.
You live a relatively modest life. You don't overspend, and you aren't very materialistic.
You are also quite self sufficient and independent. You have many useful skills.
You can take care of yourself and those you love... which is crucial to surviving another Great Depression.

GOOD TO KNOW.

Monday Morning Moan

Cory Writing....

My Monday Morning Moan has to do with a call I got last night, but for the sake of not getting sued I won't tell you the story. Lets just suffice it to say I can't believe God actually allows some people to be able to conceive children. I think someone should propose law that makes people have to attend classes for a certain amount of years before they are allowed to reproduce. I felt like loosing my mind after dealing with this lady last night. I feel sorry for the kids that she is raising.

My Husband Rocks Friday

April writing...

A little different template today....here we go!

1. Where did you meet? We met at church. At the time my Dad was the Youth Pastor and his Mom took the job as the Children's Pastor. At first...ohh he drove me nuts. I couldn't stand him. He was this cocky-Gods-gift-to-women type that loved to tease me incessantly.

2. How long did you date before you were married? Approx. two and half years I believe...For some reason I never can remember that...probably because we changed the wedding date so much!

3. What does he do that surprises you? When he quietly takes care of household chores for me. It always seems to fit into the times that I REALLY don't want to do them.

4. What is your favorite quality of his? I would have to say one of my favorite qualities is his goofiness. It only comes out every so often, but when it does I LOVE it.

5. What is your favorite feature of his? His smile. I think my Husby has a rockin' smile.

6. Does he have a nickname for you? He does have a few...the most often used is Babe or Renae. Then there is also and in the past been Baywatch and Apee.

7. What is his favorite food? I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he loves, loves, loves BBQ Chicken and Homemade Mac-N-Cheese...but he also really loves Spaghetti.

8. What is his favorite sport? Baseball...then College Football.

9. When and where was your first kiss? It was in his basement after we watched "Menace to Society." How romantic huh? Yeah and I was totally flipping out nervous too.

10. What do you like to do together? Anything we can. We love to be with each other, experiencing life and what comes along with it.

11. Do you have any children? Not yet! We do have two dogs though...they are the children for now.

12. Does he have a hidden talent? I think he can sing, if he tried to learn a little about how to do it correctly. Let's say there is TONE in there somewhere.

13. Who said "I love you" first? Uhm...I always say we both did. But he was saying it for a while during our friendship (he meant it just as friends) but I still think as far as the romantic type love...it happened at the same time. We both felt it.

14. What is his favorite type of music? His favorite is Country.

15. What do you admire most about him? His Integrity. I know he is a good man and always will be one. He wrestles with his mistakes and he rejoices in his good doings.

16. Do you think he will read this? I know he will...maybe he will even return the favor???? :) (What lady doesn't like to hear what her Husby thinks?)

NOW it's your turn!

Monday Moan

Cory Writing....

My Monday Moan is about slippery trees. You might be scratching your head on this one, but allow me to tell you a little story and you will understand.

On Friday night I responded for an overturned vehicle in the water.

When I arrived there was a truck flipped over in the water down a hundred foot cliff. We ran down the hill to the truck because there was supposed to be a guy trapped in it. We got to the truck after falling into the mud several times and we located the individual not in the truck, but close to it.

I was stuck out by the truck standing on a tree that was a little above the water. So I stayed there until the fire department got the guy on a backboard and started to move him up the cliff. There was enough room on the dry area, so I started to walk along the tree trying to keep my balance. The tree was really slippery and slimy, so I was trying to be careful. I got almost to the dry land when I tried to jump, but my feet slipped. Luckily I landed on a dry spot, but the slip caused me to fall forward. As I was falling forward I reached out to catch myself with my hands on the tree. I grabbed the tree, but I had gloves on and my hands slipped off too. The only thing left to catch my fall was my face, so I have a bump at my hairline, a scratch on the bridge of my nose and a scrap on the end of my nose. In a straight line just like the tree, so that is where my Monday Moan comes from.

Now that I shared my embarrassing moment I want to hear your Monday Moan.

Simple Pleasure Thursday

Cory Writing...

My simple pleasure today has to do with ringing in the New Year. I had to go back to work New Years eve into New Years, so I thought I wasn't going to be able to ring in the New Year with my wife. When I got to work my Sgt had me run some food up to our dispatcher in the Headquarters building. After I did that I didn't tell anyone, but I rushed home and was able to count down and ring in the New Year with my wife and my family. What a simple pleasure for me. New Years is one of my favorite holidays.
